Crowns Abroad
Cost: from £160 | Time required: generally 7 days or two short (1-2 day) visits
A crown is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth. It is an ideal restoration for teeth that have been broken, or weakened by decay or a very large filling. Crowns can be made of porcelain, gold and other metals, acrylic resin, or an amalgam (a mixture) of these materials and will last for many years, depending on the health of the tooth underneath. A temporary crown made of plastic or metal is put over the tooth until the permanent crown is prepared.
You will need to have at least two visits: the first for the preparation, impression, shade taking and fitting the temporary crown; and the second to fit the permanent one. There will usually be about 1 to 2 weeks in between appointments.
Bridges Abroad
Cost: from £130 | Time required: generally 7 days or two short visits
When a tooth has fallen out or been removed a bridge can be used. It is made up of artificial teeth which are permanently fixed to healthy supporting teeth by crowns.
Bridges are usually made of porcelain bonded to precious metal. Sometimes, there are other non-precious metals used in the base in order to strengthen the bridge. There are also new bridges made entirely of a special type of strong porcelain.
Dentures Abroad
Cost: from £180 | Time required: generally two short visits
People wear dentures to replace lost or missing teeth so they can enjoy a healthy diet and smile with confidence. A 'complete' or 'full' denture is one which replaces all the natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaws. A 'partial' denture fills in the spaces left by lost or missing teeth.
