Krakow is a place you just have to see. Recently named by one of the biggest tour operators in the US, as a “second Prague” it has a history which goes back over a thousand years. A host of monuments of Mediaeval, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture, the second oldest university in Europe (founded in 1364) and the Gothic cathedral where the kings of Poland were buried. The City of Art and Culture - European City of Culture in the year 2000 has also Europe's largest market square and numerous historical houses, palaces and churches with their magnificent interiors. In 1978 Krakow was included on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.
Once you are in Krakow you can also visit two more sites, which are on this unique UNESCO list. One hour drive from Krakow there is the former concentration and extermination camp of AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU, the largest in the Third Reich, where the Nazi genocide took place. According to historical investigations, 1.5 million people, among them a great number of Jews, were tortured and murdered in this camp, the symbol of humanity's cruelty to its fellow human beings in the 20th century.
Wieliczka Salt Mine is just 15km away from Krakow city centre. This deposit of rock salt in Wieliczka-Bochnia has been mined since the 13th century. Spread over nine levels, it has 300 km of galleries with works of art, altars, and statues sculpted in the salt, making a fascinating pilgrimage into the past of a major industrial undertaking.
We can also drive you, for additional fee, to Zakopane, the winter capital of Poland where you can enjoy stunning mountain views and incredibly fresh air.
